Had this come as part of a larger Diablo 2 HD/D3 expansion/D4 announcement I doubt the reaction would have been anywhere near that. I kinda feel bad for the poor schmuck they sent on that stage, they must have been drawing straws to see who would draw the aggro of every Diablo enthusiast in existence. Same here, and Blizzard deserve no less for believing that having a Diablo panel right after the opening ceremony where they announce a freaking mobile game to an audience of rabid PC gamers hungry for news would result in anything but catastrophe. We saw the reaction fans had to Command and Conquer Rivals earlier this year, they were livid and savaged the company. According to people close to Blizzard's plans for the event, a video confirming the development of Diablo 4 has been made, but due to the changes the project has seen since development started there is a hesitancy to announce it officially.I'm really not sure how Blizzard expected this to go over. As revealed by Kotaku, the developer has an announcement video for Diablo 4 ready, but did not want to show it at the event. However, it turns out that Blizzard may have been able to dampen the negative response to Diablo Immortal if it had actually shared this reveal of Diablo 4. This went on to receive a huge amount of negative feedback, in part due to dissatisfaction over a move to mobile gaming as a whole but equally because of a lack of official announcement of Diablo 4. That left Blizzard in an awkward situation at BlizzCon, with the only Diablo reveal being that of mobile-only game Diablo Immortal.
